How to chat on WeChat: In the world of social media, new apps are becoming popular every day. Features like messaging, video calls, and photo sharing are spreading more and more each day. Tencent, a company based in China, launched WeChat in 2011. From the start, users could do many things through the app, such as paying bills, calling a taxi, reading, ordering takeout, running a business, or sharing memories.
With WeChat, you can make video calls, send voice messages, share memories with friends, make payments using WeChat Pay, and order and call a taxi.
What is WeChat?
WeChat, developed by Tencent, is an app that allows both voice and text messaging. It was first launched in 2011, and initially only offered instant messaging, but it became the most popular app in China due to its many features, such as linking bank accounts and making payments. WeChat is a platform with many features and creates a unique QR code for each user. This lets you quickly complete transactions by scanning the QR code when adding someone new to the app. You can also check your bank accounts, make payments, and even plan your travels through the app.
Is WeChat Used Outside China?
WeChat is a Chinese messaging, social media, and mobile payment app created by Tencent. Although it is widely used in China and other Asian countries, it can also be used outside China. Technically, WeChat can be downloaded and used in other countries with either the Chinese or international version of the app and a VPN, but usage may be limited due to the lack of local payment options, language barriers, and because "many Chinese expatriates" use it.
Is WeChat Safe?
To get a WeChat account, you just need to register and join the app using a username and password. So, your account is safe as long as you choose a strong password and change it regularly. Data management is more complex: all chat history is stored locally on your device, which means you will need to transfer the data manually if you change your phone. WeChat provides users with transport encryption, not end-to-end encryption.
End-to-end encryption is widely used by Western messaging apps, allowing only the sender and receiver to see the message; messages sent with transport encryption can be read by third parties. Although Tencent claims that all messages are deleted from the server after delivery, they still remain on your mobile phone. According to Chinese law, apps, blogs, and online forums are responsible for the content on their platforms, including what users write. So, if the government requests it, WeChat will provide your data.
How to Chat on WeChat
WeChat is a great platform that lets people connect with family and friends around the world through voice calls, video calls, voice messages, text messages, and photo sharing. It is also one of the most widely used payment methods in China.
It does much more than that, so let's take a look at how to chat on WeChat on your phone and what you can do with the app!
Download the WeChat App
The first thing you need to do is go to your smartphone's app store and download the WeChat app (Android or iPhone). The download won't take long, and you'll soon be ready for the next step.
Create Your Account
As with any other social media account or app, you will need to create your personal account before using it. You will need to fill in your personal information as well as create a username and password. After verifying your information, you will be asked if you want to scan your contacts and add them automatically, or if you want to skip this step and add each contact one by one later.
Add a Friend
When you start using WeChat, you may receive friend requests from people you know. These requests appear as notifications on your phone, and you can choose whether to add them to your contact list. If you want to send a friend request to someone, you need to go to the contacts section and then to new friends. You can enter your friend's name or phone number in the search bar and send a request once you find the right person.
Share Name Card
In the settings section of your profile, you will find the "Share Name Card" option. This lets you share selected name cards with anyone you choose. These people can then save this information to their own WeChat.
Start Chatting!
Congratulations! You have now fully set up WeChat for chatting and messaging! To get started, open your contact list and select the person you want to talk to or send a text message or record a voice message with them. The amazing thing is that you can also use WeChat on your computer.
